“I wonder whether anyone has ever had a smooth road starting and running a business…In terms of obstacles, I had to pivot my business when virtual styling began a few years ago. The Stitch Fixes and Trunk Clubs of the world disrupted the personal styling landscape by pitching that you could build a wardrobe and work with a stylist for free. What these sites did NOT do is actually build a wardrobe, nor teach you about fit and tailoring – they just added clothes to your already dysfunctional closet. So my team and I doubled down on our marketing, continued to give our clients high-touch styling services, and work face-to-face. Where were you born?
I was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, grew up in Philadelphia, moved to NYC after college and lived there for 15 fashion-filled years. Presently I live in LA with my husband and 2 boys.
In one sentence what is unique about your work?
I specialize in working with women and men. Specifically, people that live or travel bi-coastally. There are many nuances to building a wardrobe and personal style between two coasts. I have lived on both coasts and understand the needs, culture, and climate.
Why do you do what you do?
My whole life has been about fashion. I graduated with a fashion design degree, had a whole career as a clothing designer and design director. Went back to school to start my own styling business and have had one for the past 7 years.

What did you do before becoming a stylist/personal shopper?
I have a degree in fashion design and was a design director in NYC for many years.
What inspired you to become a stylist/personal shopper?
Becoming a personal stylist was a second career for me. I wanted to run my own business. Be it I had a whole fashion background and career as a designer, moving into the world of styling made sense.
What is your style mantra?
Minimal glamour with a touch of animal print.
What is a worthy investment for anyone to easily improve their style?
For New Yorkers, a fabulous coat, quality shoes and bag are your investment statement pieces. For Los Angeles, a sharp-fitting blazer of beautiful fabric and quality can elevate any denim outfit. For San Francisco, an elegant trench works day or night and adjusts to the temperature changes.

For years, I spent most mornings dreading getting dressed. My closet was stuffed, yet I found myself pulling the same five outfits every week, most of which looked exactly as I felt: dumpy. I’m not one of these women who intrinsically understands how to put together an outfit…I heard about Gallagher from a friend of a friend who’d dropped $1,000 and had a transformative experience. I was hoping for similar results at about the same price point. I just wanted to do it in a way that was less wasteful than buying clothes new since manufacturing is so resource-intensive.
