The GQ-titled “Torpedo Sneaker” represents all things super-slim, including aerodynamic barely-there silhouettes and micro soles ranging from low-to-the-ground to paper thin. Retro looks and color are major players in the trend with it-shoes like puma speedcats, Adidas gazelles and sambas leading the way. The Trick to Mastering Skinny Sneakers, Navigating the Tricky “Baggy-Slim” Rule

While men in fashion are styling skinny sneakers with all kinds of pant silhouettes, some are easier to pull off than others. Most notably, the baggy pants trend is having it’s moment this year.

But what pants are too baggy? We’ve seen it all in street style; and the reality is that not all silhouettes work for everyone.
Take this puddle-pant summer suit, for example. While he carries the look well, a slim shoe swimming in ultra-roomy pant legs can be a difficult wear for everyday styling.
A good rule of thumb is to note whether your pants are puddling slightly over the shoe, or enveloping the shoe and dragging on the ground.

The Universal Approach, Our Favorite Pants for Easy Styling

A more universal approach is to mimmic the roominess from the example above, but with more balance (so your shoe isn’t lost under your pants). Aim for a loose silhouette that ends at the ankle, tapers at the ankle, is cuffed, or maintains a “baggy-slim” silhouette throughout. Example: A 90s straight leg jean.

Alternative ways to style your slim sneakers: Shorts are a forgiving garment to pair with the slim sneaker, since there’s some space between your pant to the sneaker. If you want to wear sweatpants, stick to the same silhouette rule as your jeans. Easygoing “baggy-slim” and silhouettes that taper towards the ankle work best with the shape of the shoe.
